Perinatal Mental Health
What is perinatal mental health?
Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) encompass a range of mental health conditions that may first appear during the perinatal period, which includes the time during pregnancy and up to one year after childbirth. These conditions, such as
anxiety
depression
obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
psychosis
can significantly impact daily functioning and affect a parent’s ability to care for themselves and their baby confidently.
For many, seeking help for perinatal mental health challenges can feel overwhelming due to the stigma, fear of judgment, and feelings of shame or guilt.
Our Approach to Perinatal mental health
At Quest, we understand the unique emotional and psychological hurdles that come with pregnancy and parenthood. Our dedicated team of perinatal mental health specialists and clinicians collaborate to offer compassionate and comprehensive care tailored to each individual’s needs.
While "baby blues" affect up to 70-80% of parents and typically subside within a few weeks, PMADs affects 15-20% of parents and can develop during pregnancy or up to a year postpartum. Those with PMADS often present more severe and long-lasting symptoms. These may include persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, or even psychosis.
Early intervention and support are key, and we are here to help parents navigate these challenges.
